We are all into making a living online, would that be by offering services or simply running a website where we can sell ad spaces, integrate affiliate links or even sell our services and skills to others for the top dollars, the fact is if you are here already and reading this post it is money that interests you.

Most of us when started we started making our first cents with Google AdSense to then work hard and increase constantly our AdSense earnigns, many of us failed while few of us are having a great success with AdSense and are making a living out of AdSense. The good part of AdSense is that the ads are relevant to the content on which the ads appear so people do see relevant ads and are willing to click. But what is that they do to become successful and you aren’t

The Niche of the Website

The niche which your site covers, or rather the topic you are writing about could be very important. Most of the high earners either know the niche very well or they are very good at building websites and give visitors valuable content, but not always this turns to be the best thing to get into a niche that you are familiar with. Many new enterpreneurs jump into a niche that is not as profitable, however it is easy to drive traffic, just to name some; proxy sites and gaming related sites.

The good thing about these sites is that you can easily drive traffic to the site. However the downside of such sites is that AdWords advertisers pay less per click on keywords relevant to gaming or proxy so the earnings would be less too and the effort would be bigger.

To put it simple, if you have a budget to hire a writer to write about a topic where advertisers pay big money per click and you are able to market that site online and drive quality traffic then you should chose a high paying adsense keywords for your niche, and here is an article on how to find high paying adsense keywords or another one on how to find high paying adsense keywords for your niche with Google’s Search-based keyword tool.

AdSense Ad Placement

The placement of the ad is anther important factor of the CTR, since the ads are closely related to the content that your visitors read it is good to keep the ads above the fold, right in front of their eyes so visitors could see the ads and if intrigued by the advertisement to click on it, as suggested by AdSense Team on their heatmap image to better illustrate the placement of the ad.

The formats that result in better CTR are the bigger rectangular ads, 326×280, 300×250, the leader board of 726×90 and the skyscrapper 160×600. However not always you should stick with these sizes, you can always try and test the best performing ad for your site. Another tip is to blend the ads with your content, however, even here do not always stick with it and try to diversify and test until you reach the best CTR you can.

Driving Targetted Traffic to Your Site

The keywords you might chose for your AdSense based website is not always going to be an easy one to drive traffic for, the competition might be too high or even too tough to rank for that your site might most likely not see the first page on the major search engines ever, and that means you might never have visitors to your site so no clicks, unless you are a great marketer and know what you are doing.

But for newbies I suggest that you try to find unsaturated niches with less competition, here is an article that explains how to find unsaturated niches. The key is in that to find a keyword where advertisers are bidding Top Dollars to have their ads visible in the AdSense program, but also that the competition in the SERPs of the search engines to be as low as possible so we could rank as easy as possible and drive targeted traffic.

To shortly explain what unsaturated niche is, the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing and there is a high demand (great search volume and possibilities to drive good amount of targetted traffic) but there is not many resources regarding that specific product/topic (means, less websites are tending to rank for that specific keyword).

It might take awhile to find a perfect niche that is not saturate and it would be easy to rank for, however with all the seo tools out there such data can be collected pretty easily. One seo software that I do recommend is the market samurai, you can read this market samurai review for more details on that seo software.

Now that you know what the successful guys are doing, which are their key points and you know the tool that can help you out, all it remains to do is START WORKING AND MAKE MONEY ONLINE.

It is vital to know that the first impression you leave with the clients becomes very important, may it be a newly begun virtual business or a well established one. Most of the time, this is the deciding key factor which decides whether you win the client or not.

The prominent fact is to win the confidence of the client. It might be corresponding back to e-mails, over the phone or if possible in person. You should comfort your client and assure them that you will never betray them. Make them believe that you can get things efficiently. Complete the work before the deadline and take them to a surprise.

In the virtual assistant business your correspondence with client will through e-mails, or over phone or in person. Here are few tips and tricks to enhance your business.

Queries and response through E-mails

When you are replying to a message make it short and clear. Let it be point blank. Nobody likes to read long mails. Make it professional. But be friendly, limit yourself to the borderline.

Be careful and give all the requested details. If you feel some data that were not asked for might be of little help send it as attachments. If the client feels those data is unnecessary he would not view it at all. This saves a lot of time. In the signature furnish your contact details

Reply through phone

Don’t talk irrelevant matters. Do not forget that all your clients are not at leisure. They have their own work. Let the conversion be to the point. While giving data to your client have the data in your hand. This will avoid stammering.

Do not compromise on rates. You should be paid a reasonable amount for your grueling work. When you are on a deadline, do not attend calls with a tensed frame of mind. Let the answering machine attend the calls. Call back when you are relaxed.

Never expose your mood in your voice wile talking to your client. When your client discovers you are not in a happy frame of mind, he loses faith in you.

Meeting the clients in person

Dress up neatly. This gives you enormous confidence. It creates an impression that you are professional. Be exuberant and make them understand that you are interested in taking up their business. Expose your knowledge. This will help you win their trust.

Be organized. Do not search for pens or cards in front your client. Carry something which is handy and descriptive such as a portfolio. This reminds them about you even after the meeting and gives them an idea about the services you offer.

In virtual business creating a best impression during the first meet is important .It is equally important to learn from mistakes. That helps your business flourish. Find out what went wrong and be careful in not committing the same business again. Though creating impressions is difficult, it is a pride to deal with an impressed client.

The term might be new to some but the method is pretty well used and it works if you are not sleeping while doing business and you can do some math. But before we get deeper, let me explain what does established site mean in simple words.

Established site is nothing else than a website which was built from the roots to the roof, including graphics, pages, content, traffic and even (if you give value) Google PageRank. To be more clear, it is a site where someone else gave efforts to build it but he now does not have any longer time or funds to continue managing the site as the returning revenue is not worth, for him.

Okey you might be thinking, the guy is selling the site because it is not making enough money for him, than why should I buy it? That is indeed a good and valid question, but not necessary true. It happens often that the owner is leaving a website because he gets busy with real life things, or simply because he is short in ideas on how to monetize that website or blog and turn it into a cash machine. Buying such sites on forums or any other marketplace is more like a risk if you really don’t know how to give value to a website and you can end up paying too high price for a website that is not worth the money. Here are some points I would like to highlight that you should consider when you are negotiating or willing to purchase an established site from the previous owner.

Niche of website

Is it in a niche you thing you can continue maintaining or even improve it?

The age of the website

Note, the age of the website not just the age of the domain. It happens often that the domain is older than what the age of the website actually is. A website that has a longer aging is more likely to be more trusted by search engines and also more likely to have a bigger reader base. I would recommend you in no case to buy websites under expired domains with or without PR or websites that have changed niche before selling (unless you think you can really make the investment worth of it, just as I did with this site).

Website traffic stats

This is the sweet part that you should ASK the owner of the site unless he has provided you with the latest traffic stats screenshot. You are buying an established site after all, and traffic is your source #1 to make money online, as well as metric to determine the value of the website. When asking for stats, ask for the next informations if the owner is able to provide.

The overall traffic and geo location of the visitors. PPC ads such as AdSense tend to pay better bucks for US/Canada/UK and other well developed countries rather than third country traffic. Aside PPC, visitors from more developed countries have money to spend and can turn into a good affiliate income as well through leads or even sales.

Referral sites, this is the part which will tell you if the site is being promoted or not, if yes you will need to get informed on the advertising costs, if the links are natural and are driving traffic from websites that share same/similar content as yours your site is more likely going to rank higher in the search engines.

Organic traffic referrals, if there is organic traffic that means that the website is getting more targeted traffic from precise keywords. And if the keywords are related to the niche of the site that means that you can feed those visitors with useful informations and place some related affiliate links to generate extra revenue, thing which the previous owner did not notice more likely.

Current revenue that site is generating

You can base how fast you can pull back your invested money based on the current revenue that the site is making. Make sure also to ask the owner what type of methods he is using the monetize the website, if he uses only one method there is more likely more space to improve your income.

Does the website have PageRank

Older websites even with minimum backlinks will have at least PR1, if a website does not have PageRank at all than there is something wrong in the relation between the site and Google search engine (remember, Google is the search engine that drives the most organic traffic). The PageRank also indicates how trusted the website is by the search engine (Google in this case) and what link popularity it has. The more backlinks the more traffic and better serps (and again more traffic)

Now that you got all the info, you know how much traffic the website has and how much revenue is pulling out. If you are good at marketing you than will know how to increase traffic and increase revenue by using the same method, or how you can simply keep the same traffic and double or triple the income of the site, pull back your investment and all the rest you will be earning is going to be clean cash for your pocket.

Now as far as it regards the pricing, based on all those stats. Usually established sites are being sold based on a). the traffic of the website b). unique content or not c). revenue that the website already pulls and in some cases c). the Google PageRank of the site. The pricing varies also from other aspects, such as the domain name for example, if the domain name is good, descriptive (uses keywords in the name) and clean (no hyphens) the price might be higher. But if the domain name is not in question that the usual formula for selling or considering to buy a website is the average monthly earning multiplied for 10 months (if 1st month earned $30 and second month earned $40 the average monthly revenue is $35).

If I would have to advice you than I would not considering the buy a website or blog if I can’t pull back the investment within 3 months, but I am not going to advice you that. If 3 months is already a long time for me to pull back the investment than 6 months would be more than great for others. It all depends on you how much money you want to make. For example, I purchased this website on 20th October for $100 , by 13th of November I had already generated $300 of profit (i.e. $400) which it turned into a great investment and all thanks to the previous owner that had developed the site and did not notice a way he could of monetize the site. Than some thoughts flied over my head, should I be selling the site and get the extra money and sleep tight, or should I continue the blog and build it as a make money online ramblings site? Well now you know the answer.

Let me know about your best investment in established site, and I will maybe tell you mine later on

Thats a heck of a long title, isn’t it? Oh well, sometimes words are not enough when we need to ask a question, but in a second view those words are just not enough for our question, When can we really say we are making a living from our blog?

To make money online from your blog is not hard at all, but the question is what is your goal and how much money you intend to make to consider a making money blog yours? Is it enough that you make enough money to pay the hosting bill? Is it enough that you can afford to buy some advertising for that month of for your blog? Well for me it certainly isn’t, and making a living from blogging is a bit harder what the other big blogger folks are making.

But give me a moment to first highlight what for me it means, making enough money to assure myself living from a single blog starting from the smallest things we daily spend

Being able to pay the blogs hosting bill

Being able to advertise further your blog

Being able to pay your internet bill

Being able to pay your electricity bill

Being able to buy at least one t-shirt and one pair of jeans a month

Being able to assure you can permit yourself a cup of coffee a day in your favorite bar

Being able to permit your self a wild night in the club at least 2 times a month

Being able to pay all other house bills, including water, gas etc

Being able to pay your monthly house rent (if you are in rent and not living with mom and dad)

Okey this are few things I could name which I daily or weekly or monthly need to afford to myself in order to survive and not live. What happens if you need a new car, the cars gas etc, what happens with at least one yearly vocation ?

Bloggers that can really afford such living comforts by just blogging (and not selling products from their blog) can be counted in one hand. What is making a living from a blog for you? How much monthly income from your blog is enough to consider leaving your daily job and maintain yourself only from blogging?

If you use AdSense PPC to make money online than most probably you have encountered in this problem, where ads displayed in the adsense ad of your site are not exactly related to your content but are some how related to some keywords that you have used in your content.

You must probably know this, but lets refresh your memory. When you create content in your blog the Google AdSense bot becomes aware of it as you are using the adsense ads in that content and crawls your content, picks some keywords of your content and displays ads related to the keywords that the bot has crawled. Many times happens that when you write content a different keyword that you like to use is repeated several times around your websites, the repeat of that keyword increases the keyword density of that word in your content. As spider bots impact on that keyword several times they automatically pick that keyword and display ads related to that given keyword (just as in this example, where I am repeating the word keyword too often).

When AdSense Ads are not really related to our content the click through rate drastically may decrease as the ads present no interest to our readers, and hence there is no reason that readers should be clicking on those ads. So how do we fix this and make sure that we get related ads being displayed on our adsense box and increase our online revenue with AdSense?

The fix is pretty easy tho, maybe the newbies that are just starting with adsense haven’t heard of it, or maybe even tho you have used never really got interested to digg deeper and find out a solution. The Google AdSense team in order to help publishers to target better the ads within their content have provided us with the AdSense Ad Section tag, a tag that helps the Google AdSense bot to determine to which keywords to give more importance when they are crawling our content and display relevant ads to those keywords.

This is how the adsection start tag looks <!– google_ad_section_start –>, the adsection tag has also a end tag which wrapps the desired keyword within it, and looks like this <!– google_ad_section_end –>, so if we have a make money online blog and we want to display relevant ads to make money online we need to wrap our keyword like this <!– google_ad_section_start –>make money online<!– google_ad_section_end –>.

To have even better results, we can use also the ignore tag, which tells the adsense bot to completely IGNORE the keywords wrapped within the ignore tag, and it looks like this <!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –> which also has the closing tag command <!– google_ad_section_end(weight=ignore) –>, so if I wanted to tell the adsense bot to ignore the word keyword from within my content I will wrap that word like this <!– google_ad_section_start(weight=ignore) –>keyword<!– google_ad_section_end(weight=ignore) –>

By using the adsnse ad section tag we can pretty much have the control of the type of ads we get displayed in our adsense box. For more indepth of using the adsection tag you may want to read the Google AdSense AdSection Tag post on dnseo.net or on Google AdSense Help page
