We are all into making a living online, would that be by offering services or simply running a website where we can sell ad spaces, integrate affiliate links or even sell our services and skills to others for the top dollars, the fact is if you are here already and reading this post it is money that interests you.

Most of us when started we started making our first cents with Google AdSense to then work hard and increase constantly our AdSense earnigns, many of us failed while few of us are having a great success with AdSense and are making a living out of AdSense. The good part of AdSense is that the ads are relevant to the content on which the ads appear so people do see relevant ads and are willing to click. But what is that they do to become successful and you aren’t

The Niche of the Website

The niche which your site covers, or rather the topic you are writing about could be very important. Most of the high earners either know the niche very well or they are very good at building websites and give visitors valuable content, but not always this turns to be the best thing to get into a niche that you are familiar with. Many new enterpreneurs jump into a niche that is not as profitable, however it is easy to drive traffic, just to name some; proxy sites and gaming related sites.

The good thing about these sites is that you can easily drive traffic to the site. However the downside of such sites is that AdWords advertisers pay less per click on keywords relevant to gaming or proxy so the earnings would be less too and the effort would be bigger.

To put it simple, if you have a budget to hire a writer to write about a topic where advertisers pay big money per click and you are able to market that site online and drive quality traffic then you should chose a high paying adsense keywords for your niche, and here is an article on how to find high paying adsense keywords or another one on how to find high paying adsense keywords for your niche with Google’s Search-based keyword tool.

AdSense Ad Placement

The placement of the ad is anther important factor of the CTR, since the ads are closely related to the content that your visitors read it is good to keep the ads above the fold, right in front of their eyes so visitors could see the ads and if intrigued by the advertisement to click on it, as suggested by AdSense Team on their heatmap image to better illustrate the placement of the ad.

The formats that result in better CTR are the bigger rectangular ads, 326×280, 300×250, the leader board of 726×90 and the skyscrapper 160×600. However not always you should stick with these sizes, you can always try and test the best performing ad for your site. Another tip is to blend the ads with your content, however, even here do not always stick with it and try to diversify and test until you reach the best CTR you can.

Driving Targetted Traffic to Your Site

The keywords you might chose for your AdSense based website is not always going to be an easy one to drive traffic for, the competition might be too high or even too tough to rank for that your site might most likely not see the first page on the major search engines ever, and that means you might never have visitors to your site so no clicks, unless you are a great marketer and know what you are doing.

But for newbies I suggest that you try to find unsaturated niches with less competition, here is an article that explains how to find unsaturated niches. The key is in that to find a keyword where advertisers are bidding Top Dollars to have their ads visible in the AdSense program, but also that the competition in the SERPs of the search engines to be as low as possible so we could rank as easy as possible and drive targeted traffic.

To shortly explain what unsaturated niche is, the subset of the market on which a specific product is focusing and there is a high demand (great search volume and possibilities to drive good amount of targetted traffic) but there is not many resources regarding that specific product/topic (means, less websites are tending to rank for that specific keyword).

It might take awhile to find a perfect niche that is not saturate and it would be easy to rank for, however with all the seo tools out there such data can be collected pretty easily. One seo software that I do recommend is the market samurai, you can read this market samurai review for more details on that seo software.

Now that you know what the successful guys are doing, which are their key points and you know the tool that can help you out, all it remains to do is START WORKING AND MAKE MONEY ONLINE.

Making money online is a day dream for many bloggers, achieving that goal to be able to work for yourself without the need of waking up in early in the morning and hearing your boss shouting for his own sh**s.

In order to be able to make money online you have to walk through several steps starting from creating a website, being able to write articles, the use of PPC programs or even affiliates, mentioning these grades is worthless if you don’t have your first goal, the visitors which will be clicking on your PPC programs, buying products through your placed affiliate links or even those same people that will be interested advertising in your website.

There are several techniques how to bring visitors to your blog and just to name some

Organic targeted traffic from search engines

Targeted PPC Advertising Campaigns

Advertising on other sites (banner advertising or textual advertising)

Word of Mouth , etc.

As for every online money making dreamer the investment to achieve your first goal (bringing visitors to your site) needs to be as cost effective as possible. This means to spend as less as possible to bring readers to your site, from which you might be able to make money from your site.

One of the most precious traffic you could get to your site is the organic traffic from search engines. The search engines are a great source to get some targeted since they do present a list of sites for each keyword query people type in in the search bar. This means that the users are looking for that exact same product/keyword, and the more competitive the keyword is the more search queries that keyword receives and in return the more traffic you could get.

One of the competitive keywords of making money online is the phrase make money online, by playing smart and with some hard work you could get in the first page of the SERPs for that keyphrase and receive roughly 200 unique visitors a day. There is a guy that recently obtained the first position in the search engines for that keyword, Carl Ocab. Carl managed to bring his site in as first result for the query make money online, but to my appearance he is not honoring that result.

What makes me think he is not honoring his first position
The reasons are simple, he worked hard and put his effort to rank for that keyword and gain more organic targeted visitors to his blog and make more money online. Thats right, he’s site is a blog, just like this one. But what Carl is failing to is to be a blogger, and this means to feed your readers with fresh content which they would love to read. He’s last post results around 20th of January, thats two weeks without feeding his readers with content, using the content to pre-sell products under affiliate links or even clicks on his PPC ads. Whats worst is that each day he is missing to feed his readers with new content he is losing a reader (would your cat remain at your house if you don’t feed it?).

The Lesson
If you already achieve the first goal in your life or online marketing or simply making money online don’t forget to honor it, keep on going and set yourself a new goal and if you are a blogger, feed the people with what is most precious for them, fresh content, because if new visitors are precious for a site or blog, the returning visitors are twice more precious.

Thats a heck of a long title, isn’t it? Oh well, sometimes words are not enough when we need to ask a question, but in a second view those words are just not enough for our question, When can we really say we are making a living from our blog?

To make money online from your blog is not hard at all, but the question is what is your goal and how much money you intend to make to consider a making money blog yours? Is it enough that you make enough money to pay the hosting bill? Is it enough that you can afford to buy some advertising for that month of for your blog? Well for me it certainly isn’t, and making a living from blogging is a bit harder what the other big blogger folks are making.

But give me a moment to first highlight what for me it means, making enough money to assure myself living from a single blog starting from the smallest things we daily spend

Being able to pay the blogs hosting bill

Being able to advertise further your blog

Being able to pay your internet bill

Being able to pay your electricity bill

Being able to buy at least one t-shirt and one pair of jeans a month

Being able to assure you can permit yourself a cup of coffee a day in your favorite bar

Being able to permit your self a wild night in the club at least 2 times a month

Being able to pay all other house bills, including water, gas etc

Being able to pay your monthly house rent (if you are in rent and not living with mom and dad)

Okey this are few things I could name which I daily or weekly or monthly need to afford to myself in order to survive and not live. What happens if you need a new car, the cars gas etc, what happens with at least one yearly vocation ?

Bloggers that can really afford such living comforts by just blogging (and not selling products from their blog) can be counted in one hand. What is making a living from a blog for you? How much monthly income from your blog is enough to consider leaving your daily job and maintain yourself only from blogging?
